Need Advice on a New Video Card?

So my video card is finally becoming so outdated that I can't just turn look the other way about it anymore. I am trying play DC Universe Online, and a comparison site is telling me that my video card is 691% worse than that of the recommended settings...

Currently I have a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS while the RECOMMENDED setting is NVIDIA 8800GTX+ or ATI 3800 series+ video card. Also to add, the MINIMUM setting is NVIDIA 7800+ or ATI 1950+ video card.

So what I am looking for is the cheapest possible video card I can get while still being able to play DCUO (I really don't care about level of settings, as long as I can play). Currently I am looking at the Radeon 5670 1GB which is $169.99 (as seen on bestbuy.com), but I am wondering if there is somewhere I could get this video card at a cheaper price, or if there is another video card that will come to my needs that is less expensive.

Not trying to seem Jewish, but I just graduated high school and so expenses must be a minimum.|||Why don't you get the Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5, its much faster than the 5670, and on ebay it costs $120 - 130|||You were doing fine up to the last line with the ethnic slur.

You can buy the same video card significantly less online at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?u… or http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

Which Video Card should i go with?

I'm am in the process of building a computer that i would like to spend a max of 1000 on and i am having a little difficulty lowering the price to under that line. I will mainly be using the computer for gaming and obviously be using it for other things like music and microsoft office programs.

Here is what i have set up as my set up so far:

-HP 24X Multiformat DVD Writer Black SATA Model 1260i

-Antec Two Hundred Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

-Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

-ASUS VW193TR Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor

-DIAMOND 5770PE51G Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

-CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

-Logitech 967973-0403 Black PS/2 Standard Deluxe 250 Desktop

-CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5D

-GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

-Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80580Q9400

-Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Full

-Dynatron P985 92mm Ball CPU Cooler

So that is my build that i am trying to get under $1000 and i am at around $1100.

So i am trying to lower the price and i know the video card should be one of the first things and my other option for a video card is

SAPPHIRE 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

This card is close in comparison with the other one and if i do down grade to this new one i will save about 40 bucks so is this a good card to down grade to or is there something better.

i don't care if it is ATI or Nvidia|||Cut back on Win 7 and use OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office. That should save you some cash. Go with the cheaper card, it won't make that big a difference. And just a reminder, 32-bit OS can only handle 3 gigs of RAM. Make sure you get Win 7 64, friend screwed that up with 8 gigs of RAM and spent the last of his money on Win 7 32. 'Twas pissed.|||Get a different power supply 550w should do fine with your setup, also get a 250gts. Directx11 cards from ATI right now are just entry line...you're pretty much burning money if you're buying from ATI

512MB GDDR3 Video Card Upgrade; want 1GB GDDR5 Video Card!?

I have an ATi Radeon 4850 HD, this video card is obsolete in my opinion and I do not want to use it. This card has 512MB of GDDR3, and is 256-Bit. I'm using third-party software to turn the fan on and underclock it since the regular windows drivers doesn't do anything of that automatically. (Using RivaTuner & Real Temp) I am looking for an equivalent nVidia card in comparison to mine as a replacement, but I'm wondering if my PCIe 2.0 x16 slot can support a 1GB or 2GB GDDR5 nVidia Card. I bought this computer in 2009 and it is still under warranty, Best Buy is giving me a hassle on replacing mine with an equivalent Nvidia in the mean time so I guess I have to cough up $$$...

I have a Delta Power Supply 360/350watts, My Delta Power Supply is only 350watts, but is powering my ATi Video Card which needs 6-pin adapter from power supply, and it's PCI Express 2.0. My Radeon requires 450 Watts from the Power Supply, and runs fine. It's the stock video card that came with the computer. There's only one thing I'm skeptical about, if I can get a GDDR5 card, they were released in Late-Mid 2009, I think. I've been researching this upgrade for over a week and need a serious good recommendation on what to do. And please don't tell me to make a new build; I'm doing that after I finish upgrading this one this one for my fiancee.

So here the grand question... *drum roll please*

Are PCIe 2.0 x16 GDDR3/4 Memory Interface Slot Architectures on x58 motherboards compatible with 1-2GB Nvidia GDDR5 video cards, with suffice amount of watts being given to it by the PSU.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435MT

Intel Core i7 @ 2.66GHZ

Locked Intel X58 motherboard with 1 PCIe 2.0 x16 slot for the video card.

4GB of DDR3 ram (Stock)

I'm happy with this PC but I'm a gamer and like using proper software to control my video cards, not third-party applications.|||The short answer is:

As long as the slot is PCIE 16x, you can use any damn PCIE based card you like.

It does not matter whether it's GDDR3 or GDDR5.

The only limits are your power supply wattage, the size of your case and your wallet.

If you want a decent video card, be prepared to spend upwards of $160 to $200.

If you want to know how powerful your power supply needs to be, you read the reviews. A very simple google search will tell you.

The Toms hardware guide tells you every year what are the best graphic cards to buy (for that time period) for each budget range.

Video card comparison?

which of the 2 is better

Radeon 9500

HD Radeon 3450|||Radeon HD 3450 is better. It supports up to Shader 4.1, has about 30% higher memory bandwidth because it uses ddr2 memory and supports the latest HD video standard.

Radeon 9500 is outdated. It only supports Shader 2.0, uses slower memory and not good for current HD video.|||the radeon 9500 is my fav from those two but I woudl pick the one you really need and would get the use most of:

ask yourself:

how much am I willing to spend

how much do I really use my computer

how much do I really need a video card and the product that you best need you will just know. :)

Video Card Comparison Question?

Asus Radeon HD 5770 1GB or the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Vapor-X 2GB or the Asus Radeon HD 4890 1GB? which one is the best and why? here are some of the games i play gta 4 nfs most wanted nfs shift crysis and games like these. but out of these 3 which one would be the best for most games. and also can you tell me which one is the best and then the second best and then the last one. thank you|||I would go with the Vapor-X 2GB because of bigger memory. But, you gotta look at speeds too. Although the speeds matter, the memory is more important because of the cards ability to store more video processing commands which means lesser lag.

At the end of the day, you gotta look at both, the memory and the speed of the memory. They have to be proportional.

And also, DX11 does not mean better. The card needs more power to process DX11 then DX10 or 9. So don't really look for DX11 because not a lot of games support it.

In the future, consider upgrading because now DX11 is at it's baby stages and still is being worked on.|||In order of best to worst of an excellent trio of cards...

4890

4870

5770

EDIT: Ranking based on Benchies performed by Tom's Hardware on real-world games and systems as well as 3D Mark.

While the 4870 has double the memory, this does not mean that there is a significant boost in performance, nor does it mean more power (that is strictly the perview of the GPU). Once the card's memory exceeds 512mb, the amount has a smaller impact on performance than most think, because of the speed of data transfer across the PCI-e bridge. The only real advantage the Vapour-X card has is the more efficient cooler, which means that enthusiasts have an easier time overclocking it without needing to worry about frying the GPU.

As for power draw, the HD 5xxx cards draw about the same to slightly less power than their 4xxx series equivalents while at an idle, because of the die shrink. Mind you, the higher clock and memory speeds and additional processing power tend to eat-up most of the savings.

That being said, based on "Future Proofing," the HD 5770 card is the better card, and at less than $200 or so, an excellent deal. (Put two in Crossfire, and they drive both of the other cards into the ground!)

Good Luck!|||As always, when Gaming the most expensive graphics card is the "Best" (whatever that means)!

Why? Because it makes the manufacturers the most profit!

Summary: (1) Graphics Card, (2) CPU, (3) RAM, it isn't just about Graphics, it's all 3, working together!!!

TIP: The higher the ATI, or nVidia, Series AND Model number, the better the performance, regardless of Manufacturer. Read ALL the Video Card Charts at Tom's Hardware for more info:|||the sapphire radeon is the best. The increased graphic card ram will improve performance. This is a good grahic card that produces detailed graphics. then is the 5770 and last is the 4890 because of the low amount of ram in it.|||get the 5770 because its cooler, has dx11 but it is on par with a 4870 but if you overclock it it will go way past 4890 speeds.|||5770 is a good card,

But the hd4870x2 is better

ASUS M4A89GTD PRO USB3 , video card already installed?

i looked a review in a website , and it say onboard vga ( whats vga? video card?) - ATI RADEON 4290 GPU , does this mean the motheboard has already a video/ graphics card installed? can i change it to a RADEON HD 6850? if not tell me some other video/ graphics card that is almost same in comparison with radeon hd 6850 with performance and price|||vga stands for video graphics adapter

pretty much all motherboard have onboard VGA. this is too keep costs down for builds that dont need graphics cards.

onboard vga is fine for general use and the newer ones such as the 4290hd are very good for watching hd movies and some very low level games such as total war games.

i actually have this exact motherboard with a 1055t in it and can highly recommend it.

the onboard vga is not removable from the motherboard it is part of the chipset and as gpus go is rubbish as it will be its only designed for a general use computer not a gaming one.

i personally also have a 6850 hd

as soon as the motherboard detects a graphics card in pci e slot 1 then it will disable the onboard vga (in this case the 4290 hd) and run using the 6850 hd

also in this motherboard make sure you read the instructions you need to insert the switch card into the pci card slot closest to the cpu to direct more bandwidth when only using one card to the slot one thats actually the slot furthest from the cpu (i didnt understand this setup either but its still an amazing motherboard got my 1055t to 4.5ghz stable overclock i was amazed)

so to answer your question onboard vga is very normal and yes you can put a graphics card in, you can actually put 2 graphics cards in crossfire if you want :)|||"onboard vga" means that the video adapter is part of the mobo.

Yes, you can install another video card.

Good Luck

Buying a new computer. Video Card Comparison.?

I need to know which card is better. They're both integrated into the motherboards. One is the Nvidia Geforce 8200, and the other is the ATI Radeon Xpress 1200. Any info as to why would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.|||sorry but i would go with a 4830 or 4850|||nvidia is better dude.........it's the most preferred for gaming|||the 8200 is much better than the 1200

the 1200 is like the Nvidia 6100|||A GF8200 is better. A GF8200 is roughly equivalent to an ATI 3200. Still I would recommend dedicated graphics like a Geforce 9500 as opposed to integrated ones.

Video/CPU comparison help please?

I am running the following:

Graphics card= ATI Radeon HD 5450

CPU= AMD Phenom II X4 945

I need to know if i am able to play the "witcher 2" which calls for the following

min graphics card= ATI Radeon HD 3850

min CPU = AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+

The game is running incredibly slow and lags by about 3-4seconds. Please let me know if the two specs mentioned are equel to or better then the minimum requirements. (i know my PC is better then the others just not sure on these two)

The best and correct answer will surely receive "Best Answer" from me.|||Your CPU is a lot better, but your graphics card is very weak, and definitely worse than a 3850. Many pre-built 'gaming' computers that I see come with your exact GPU, which is definitely where they skimp out to save money. That GPU costs about $40, whereas a real gaming GPU costs $200+. If you feel you could afford a new GPU (even a ~$100 GPU would be much better than a 3850), post your budget and I'll find something that should be good for you.

I'd recommend this GPU:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp…

It's an AMD 6750, and is $99 before the mail-in rebate for $30, which brings it down to $69. That's pretty much the best you can get for the money, and is much better than the 3850, not to mention your 5450. There's no worries about it being compatible or not; they both use the same connection (PCIe 2.0). It should run the game smoothly on lowish-medium settings.

Desktop vanishes overtime after installing new video card.?

Can anyone help? I just installed a new radeon card, an X1550. I'm burrowing a friends pc and he did it himself. Also I notice it's little more sluggish on the desktop even though it's 256mb over the older 128mb, it does fine in games. I'm guessing some other parts of his hardware are too slow or old in comparison. Or did he not install it correctly?

The problem I get is that after about an hour or two (sometimes), the desktop will vanish although still functional. I get the error "we've encountered a problem with windows.exe" or something. Any help would be appceirated.|||The "X" series of ATI cards should work just fine. I had an X1300, X1600 and an X1650 before my current video card and they all worked extremely well.

What I would do is go to ATI, here and download the latest driver (just the driver for now...not the whole catalyst control center which is the driver+the tuning software.

I ASSUME you have Windows XP, if not then go here and pick your operating system first:

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

(I am going to assume you have XP Pro/Home, but if you have Vista, then fine too)

Click on XP Pro/Home in the left pane. Click on RADEON in the middle pane. Click on the right pane and scroll down to X1550. Click the green GO button and it will take you here:

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_cataly…

Go down to OPTION 2 and download JUST the driver only, which in this case is 14.7 MB to a temporary directory on your hard disk.

THen, I would go into control panel, system icon, hardware tab, device manager, display adapter, click on the "+" then click on the first listed device (there may be a secondary device driver). I would then go into the Driver Tab and then click on ROLL BACK DRIVER. It may warn you there will be no driver if you do this...do it anyway. If it does not say there will be no driver, there is then more than one driver (in the hardware database in the O/S), so do it AGAIN. The operating system will then make the Windows VGA stock driver the driver when you reboot.

Reboot the computer to reset things and allow XP to make the standard VGA driver default.

When fully booted into the desktop, go to the temp directory where you downloaded the driver and click on the EXE file and this will install the ATI X1550 driver you downloaded.

Reboot the computer again after installation to make the new driver default.

Right click on the desktop and then pick PROPERTIES from the menu, click on the SETTINGS TAB and set your display properties and click ok and you should be all set.

You can go back into control panel then and into device manager (follow my steps above, again), and double check that your driver has in fact been installed.

If you wish to install the full catalyst package, youcan now go back to ATI and download the full catalyst software which will allow you to tweak settings on the video card. You will have to download the driver and catalyst package, and catalyst will detect the current driver installed and only install the catalyst software.

You must also have DIRECTX 9.0C installed on you compute and you MUST HAVE Microsoft DOT.NET version 2.0 (check add remove software and scroll through the list to make sure you have NET version 2.0 installed)...if not, go to Microsoft and run the UPDATE wizard, and download/install NET version 2.0 OR HIGHER (current is NET version 3.5). The catalyst software WILL NOT WORK without .NET installed, version 2.0 or higher. This is one of the reasons why I did not suggest that you download the entire catalyst package because just installing the driver for the video card is not affected by the presence or absense of Net 2.0. We wanted to avoid any problems till you got a proper driver installation and then you can deal with the catalyst problems second.

I think this should take care of your problem for you.|||The first thing I would check is that you are using the most up to date drivers for the X1550 card. You can use this link: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html to help you select the correct driver set for your machine. If you are already using the correct driver set or after updating to this driver set the problem persists, you might wish to check that the card is seated properly and any supplimental power cable (if applicable) is securely attached. Lastly, though not uncommon, you might want to make sure your power supply is rated high enough for the addition of the video card when compared to the other components in the system. If the existing power supply is rated lower than 350watts you will need to upgrade to at least 400watts minimum.|||Probably don't have the correct driver or a hardware conflict.

I need to know what OS are your using?

For example if your using a card designed for Vista, if you use it on XP the proper driver might not be available.

Which video card is better as far as smoothness, laglessness and speed goes?

AMD (ATI RadeonTM Graphics Division) ATi Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 Graphics Card---------

EVGA e-GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB GDDR3 PCIe 2.0 Graphics Card

heres the link for the comparison specs from microcenter.com

http://www.microcenter.com/search/compare_products.phtml?search_id=49dd939848a68fe750b31d85d3a83880|||the ati 4870 has been receiving great reviews i want one myself plus ati has sorted there driver issues

I Need Help Choosing The Better Video Card, Please Help Me?

1) nVidia GeForce 9400 GT (1GB)

2) nVidia GeForce 9500 GT (512MB)

3) Radeon HD 5450 (512MB)

4) Radeon HD 3650 (512MB)

I tried using this site to compare, http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php but its kind of difficult to compare when they all kind of outweigh each other in a way, like for an example, the 9500 GT outweighs the 9400 GT but the thing is, the 9400 GT is a 1GB card and the 9500 GT is a 512MB, so i decided to look for some help on here, but please i used those two cards as examples on how they weigh each other out so please don't forget to help me compare the other cards i listed, also i know these cards are out dated but they're about $30 (all cards same price) which is my budget right now, plus the card is just to replace the on-board one and maybe play some light games (Ex. Sims 2) nothing big. So please just a comparison between these four, i know people on here like to suggest other better cards, if you really want to recommend something that is within my budget and better than these cards than please go ahead but please help me compare these four.|||it comes down to the 5450 and the 9500GT based on processing power the higher the number the faster the card. so to compare amd's card to nvidia we google a benchmark or at least the specs

according to

http://www.hwcompare.com/434/geforce-950…

the 9500gt is faster. although it has less ram than the 9400, the 9500gt will still produce better frame rates due to the higher processing power. however, the 5450 does support dx11 which may be nice a few years from now since current games still use dx9 or dx10. you can always get the 9500gt and upgrade the card later when you do need dx11.|||dont listen to other post who said get the 1gb one, The GT cards are very old now I wouldnt touch them at all... I would get the HD 5450 on that budget|||Bigger is better. Get the 1GB one.

Which video card is better?

I'm looking at buying a laptop, and a site I found has 3 Graphic card options... which is better?

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

nVidia GeForce GTX 285M

nVidia Quadro FX2800M

All 3 are 1GB, and they list in order of price (quadro is $600 over the ATI). Which is better? I can't find a comparison anywhere.|||The best from that list is definately the quadro BUT its crazy expensive and designed for 3d applications and workstation/professional usage. So, thats out of question.

The best card to buy is definately the mobility 5870. It is the newer card compared to the gtx 285m and it outperforms it on notebookcheck.net's gpu list as I expected. The mobility 5870 might be a little cheaper but that doesnt mean its worse as ATI is known to have better bang for the buck than nvidia. The 5870 is from ATI's current line of cards but the 285m will soon be replaced by nvidia's recent gtx 400 series which just released for desktops. With that said, once the 400 series releases on a mobile platform (which shouldnt be too long from now) it will outperform ATI's mobility 5870 but currently the 5870 is the best buy.|||If you want to compare mobile graphics cards I suggest this site

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Grap…

The 5870 is ranked 6th

The 285 is ranked 8th

The FX2800 is ranked 22nd but that is an estimate because there are no reviews on it. This card is a workstation card, it can help you run computational programs like CAD faster. If you don't use computing programs I would suggest either the 285 or 5870. The latter is the better of the two.|||Hello,

These are considered high performance video cards. In a recent benchmark done by Notebook Check the GeForce GTX 285M SLI scored first and The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 ranked 6th. For a complete comparison of all high end video cards go the site:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-…

Is this video card better than my current?

I couldn't really find an actual comparison guide, and I got impatient and went ahead and purchased it. My current card is a Radeon x1300 512mb. I purchased a GeForce 9500 GT 1gb because the price was what I could afford. Now, did I really make an upgrade, or no?|||Yeah it's better, not by a whole lot though. The 9500 GT is ok, but not for anything really graphic intensive|||according to my list the x1300 is #122 and 9500 Pro is #124 no GT listed

9600xt is #119

So the x1300 is faster But more than speed goes into making a better card

Google the reviews for each. I am looking at the 7600's agp|||im not sure what the others are on about i think they are both nvidea lovers so dont know a huge amount about ati cards.

fortunatly i left nvidea around the time the 9000 series came up to change to ATi.

the card you have bought is a huge improvement over the car you had. it has directx 10 and physc your old card was very basic compared to it. that said its not considered a gaming card it will play all current games but dont expect to get many settings off low on graphic intenive games like mw2|||well neither is a very good. but as long as your not running anything like high end games then you should be fine with the 9500. and yes its still a big improvment over the 1300

DVI and VGA Comparison and What Graphics card to buy?

I'm looking to update my monitor and graphics card. Currently I'm running a HP pavilion f1503 on my Dell Dimension 9100 with a crappy ATI Radeon x600. I want to buy a Geforce 8600 or something with DirectX 10 but I am getting mixed reviews. What what you recommend? Also if I buy a video card, does a DVI to VGA adapter hurt resolution terribly? I'm looking for a monitor with perferably both types of inputs, any suggestions?|||Under no circumstances should you buy a monitor with only VGA inputs. DVI is a must. Having both inputs on the monitor is handy because then you can plug it into both newer and older PCs. One thing to watch out for: if you're into HD content, you may want to choose a monitor that is HDCP compliant, otherwise you may experience playback issues with high definition content.

I assume you've taken this into consideration already, but make sure your new graphics card is the right type for your motherboard (i.e., PCI Express vs. AGP).

Video Card Comparison

I just upgraded my video card last month to a sapphire radeon 3870 x2 and now ati released a new card the 4870 my question is is the 4870 better then my card which my card is two 3870 in sli on one card|||in frames per second on games maybe not, however a better video card will make games look better.|||Yes it is, that's the problem with computers, stuff becomes out-dated in no time flat!

If it's been less than 30 days since you purchased it, you might want to go back to the store and ask them to refund a discount to you, since it's already outdated and they apparently didn't bother to mention that a new one was coming out very shortly.|||The 4870 is faster.

Please see this benchmark to give you a better idea:

Video card comparison help?

I recently got a new computer, and it came with a ati radeon 4350 hd as its video card. I also have a 9600 in my old computer. Which one should i use for gaming? my current one wont allow me to use the high settings in warhammer 40000 dawn of war 2.|||the new one

Video card comparison question?

for need for speed undercover and games like it which video card is best? sapphire radeon 3870 or palit 3850 1GB? ALSO just the video card its self which is better?|||hi robert, you have the right motherboard can't go wrong with radeon but you should upgrade to a 2gb. but now you said the right word and that is gaming so there is only one card that jumps out at us and that is Nvidia 8800gtx a high performance video card that can handle the heat that gaming radiates but also give you the performance that you want and need. another recommendation is max out your ram to 4gb and that is all for more performance. good luck hope i was helpful to you

Which of these video cards is better - NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200 256MB AGP or a ATI Radeon 9600 128MB AGP?

I'm not looking necessarily for game comparisons but which of these two has better specs? I don't play many games with this computer, and those I do are online such as Pogo. I do decode & burn DVD's on this machine. This machine currently has the 9600 installed and I was given the FX card recently. I want to make sure it's an actual upgrade before I swap them out.|||The 9600 is actually a better card. While the review linked below is actually a comparison of the 5200FX and the 9600 PRO (a step up from your card.) The 9600 delivers almost double the performance of the 5200FX, so I think its safe to assume that the 9600 would beat the 5200FX hands down.

I know you're not into games, but to be honest, that is what graphics cards affect the most, 3d acceleration. The only other reason to get a better graphics card would be if you were a 3d graphics designer, and if you were you probably wouldn't be satisfied with such an old card. Using either card will not affect online games or DVD decoding/burning at all. If you're looking to boost your DVD decoding, invest in some RAM. If you're looking to speed up your burning, buy a new burner.|||i agree with "belson."

and by the way, the "fx" series are told to be not that good.

Computer savvy please help: Comparison of Graphics card & Processor.?

I am buying a new laptop but I am also desiring the new upcoming game "Star Wars: The Old Republic" so I am considering the games requirements as I search for a new laptop.

here are the games Requirements I cannot figure out myself:

-Processor:

* AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better

* Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or better

* Operating System: Windows XP or later

Star Wars: The Old Republic requires a video card that has a minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM as well as support for Shader 3.0 or better. Examples include:

* ATI X1800 or better

* nVidia 7800 or better

* Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better

I am looking at 2 laptops, would either of them be sufficient?

Laptop 1:

-Processor: AMD Quad-Core A6-3400M Accelerated Processor

-Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6520G graphics

Laptop 2:

-Processor: Intel® CoreTM i3 Processors

-Graphics Card: Intel® HD Graphics

Thank you very much ^-^ much appreciated|||Well, in terms of power efficiency when browsing and such, the i3 wins by a decent margin. It's the most power efficient here, and technically beats the A6 in CPU power.

When it comes to gaming, the A6 wins by a large margin. While the CPU is slightly slower, the graphics simply blow the i3 out of the water: and that's what's important for gaming. Intel never did get their gaming graphics right, but AMD (formerly ATI) has been in the business for years.

I own an A8 with 6620G graphics, and am loving it. My friend owns a Macbook Pro with the same Intel HD graphics. Doesn't work out so well in games.

Get the A6. Get it soon too. The AMD the silicon fabs are having some production issues, so prices may rise.|||either would work, but the amd a6 is better in several ways.first, it has a dedicated graphics card(1 gb).that means the graphics card works independently of the processor, in the i3 laptop the graphics draws from the processor. second, the a6 has turbo boost.meaning it operates at 1.4 ghz normally until a program needs the extra power/speed and boosts up to 2.3ghz. this saves on battery life and each individual charge. it also puts less heat stress on the laptop which allows the laptop to last longer. i just bought a laptop with an a6 processor and it blows away any other laptop i have ever had. be careful where you buy your laptop, some places charge up to 20 percent more for the same model. if you need any more help, feel free to contact me.

What Video Card should I get for XPS 420?

The default video card that came with the computer two years ago (ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro PCI) is currently damaged and getting close to being outdated. I was looking around at reviews and comparisons and managed to find a decent video card with a good price. Here is the website that compares the new card (GeForce GTS 250) to my current video card: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=606&card2=561 . Also, I would like to know if my computer will be able to use this video card. COMPUTER SPECS: Windows Vista, Quad Core Q6600 @ 2.4GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, 32-bit OS, and im pretty sure I have PCI-E 2.0 x 16 slots. Just asking opinion, any help is appeciated.|||Personally, I would get an ATI 4870 or 5770 instead. Around the same price range or a bit above and markedly better than the 250

But yes I see no reason it wouldn't fit those specs, except if your power supply is underpowered. You'll want around 500 watts or a bit more

Gateway GT5620 in need of video card upgrade, recommendations please?

I've been wondering what would be good for my comp in order to run a specific MMO. I probably won't be getting it or anything, but I've been wondering for so long that it's been bugging me and I have to at least figure it out.

I have an unmodified Gateway GT5620, which has the Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family. I'm using a site that shows the game's specifications, and I'm looking at both the minimum and maximum requirements for a video card. I don't want a card that will quit on me in roughly ~6 months but I know it'll be difficult to find one that would possibly be in my price range.

I want to find both a decent cheap video card which would work for the min specs, AND a decent cheap video card which would be balanced BETWEEN min and max specs, just for comparison (mainly price-wise and how well it would run the game). I'm mainly asking about this because I know little to nothing about video cards.

The game's MINIMUM vid card specs suggested a 'NVIDIA® GeForce® FX or ATI Radeon™ 9500 or Intel GMA X4500 series video card or better'.

The game's MAXIMUM vid card specs suggested a '256 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600 or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 or better'. (And the CPU isn't important for my question but they suggested a 'Dual-core processor, such as the Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2'.)

Any suggestions?|||Consider the ATI HD 5570, a very decent 39 watt card. It won't stress your PC's power supply or your wallet. More powerful cards would require you to spend more because you would also buy a new/bigger power supply.

The HD 5570 is more powerful than the 8600GT or HD 2600 but has comparable wattage.

Video card question/comparison?

i have a ati radeon hd4650 512mb ddr2 and im wondering if the at x1950 pro 256mb ddr3 is better?|||http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best…|||no it isnt

Intel i3-330M vs. AMD Athlon II p340 and video card comparison?

Hi guys, i need your help to choose between these notebooks:

One comes with i3-330 and ATI Radeon 5470 (4Gb DDR3)

The other with AMD p340 and ATI Radeon HD5650 (3Gb DDR3)... their price is roughly the same.

Which one should i choose for lighter gaming (i mean, not Crysis or others in that bunch, more like Witcher, gta3)

Thanks for any help!|||The processors are close in performance

The HD 5650 is more than twice as powerful as the HD 5470

Which is a better video card?

What video card is better?

MCI Radeon HD 3850 or a geforce 7950 gt 512mb?

I can't really find any comparisons between the two.|||Between a 3850 and a 7950GT, if your just using XP and DirectX 9 I would say the 7950GT. But if your running Vista or getting Vista soon I would probable go for the 3850 or better yet the 3870 and the 3850 and 3870 are out now

Video Card/Processor comparison and what to look for?

I'm looking for a Gaming computer with slightly above decent speed and graphics, trying to decide between a Desktop or a Laptop. Obviously th Desktop is better but I'm trying to decide if the extra $150 Is worth it, If the Laptop's processing and graphics are actually that much worse. It would also be very helpful if you could point on what exactly makes them better.

(Desktop) HP Pavilion Elite HPE-300z series-

Graphics Card: 512MB ATI Radeon HD 5450 [DVI, HDMI, VGA adapter]

Processor:AMD Athlon(TM) X4 635 quad-core processor [2.9GHz, 2MB L2, up to 4000MHz bus]

(Laptop) HP Pavilion dv6t series-

Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics OR (optional) 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5470 switchable graphics

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-350M Dual Core processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)

Thank-you for you reply.|||You can upgrade desktops. With laptops, you're pretty much stuck with whatever hardware you initially bought.

The i3 dual core is substantially less powerful than that Athlon II quad core processor. That's not crucial for most games, however. Integrated graphics are weak for 3D playing, which is the laptops primary fault. (If you buy the optional Mobility Radeon HD 5470 option, graphics improve).

However, neither the Mobilitiy Radeon HD 5470 or desktop Radeon HD 5450 are particularly powerful gaming cards. They're really entry level video cards, suitable for light gaming, not intense 3D versions. I'd really like to see a HD 5670 video card at least (or 5770 for serious gaming) in the desktop.

Video card comparison?

Debating which video card would be "better" for a gamer. I care more about frames compared to total resolution, although balance is great too.

Its either going to be a nvidia 9600 GT 512 MB or ati radeon 4670HD 512MB. Sorry I don't have spec links, I can't find a good one for the ati.|||9600 GT

.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gamin…

It's a 1024MB 9600 GT but that doesn't affect fps that much.1024MB only makes it easier to alt tab safely by having more room to store the current screen info.512MB is plenty for gaming.

Video Card comparison?

Currently im running on a Phenom 9100e (Quad 1.8) and on a crappy AtiRadeon 3200 integraded, and my calculations clearly shows that my video card sucks, and im upgrading to a Radeon 4670.

How much improvement will i get on my new video card?

Is my cpu good for running games?|||1. I recommend you bump up your Ghz from 1.8 to 2.1 (at least) or max 2.5. This will allow your CPU to be faster, if your temp raises above 60C on full load you should get a new CPU fan/cooler for this. Any good one ranges from 30 dollars and up. Mainly 30 dollars though. Your CPU should do decently in games but you could bump your FPS by 5 (Which is a great amount in FPS) if you overclock to 2.5Ghz. However you can only overclock if your bios lets you. Mainly custom builds can do this.

2. Get a Radeon 5670 or 5770. The improvement on 4670 is great compared to the 3200. But you'd be better off with DirectX 11. this site can tell you how much better the 4670 will be vs. 3200 The 4670 would do a lot better, but not as good as 5670 or 5770.

Will the price for Radeon HD 6990 4gb go down in the near future ?

Hi, i'm just wondering if the price for Radeon HD 6990 video card will go down soon ? Or will it go down a bit in general ? They are expensive so as GTX 590. Bt this one looks quite incomplete in comparison with the 6990. It creates an illusion that Nvidia rushed with a response to Radeon and made GTX 590.

What you guys think ?|||Don't listen to that "gamer geek" person. He's a gamer NOT an Hardware economist. However, the price will go down over time as new, better and faster graphics processors come out every year. However, to answer your question the word "soon" must be defined. If soon meant within a year then no, the price won't go down significantly. But if you are patient and can wait for a year or two, then the price will drop more than 50% based on moor's law.

Good luck.|||Yes, the prices will go down in the very near future, as ATi has just released its new 9990 series card, and that will drive other products' prices down.|||Hi

It will go down if it does not sell.

Hope I helped!|||Waste of money. 2x 6950 will run just as well. 2x 6970 will run better|||Yeah, in about a Year

Website that has list of NVIDIA and Radeon video cards' performances on Vista OS.?

Does anyone know about a website that has various video cards' (from NVIDIA and Radeon) performance on the Windows Vista OS listed and or benchmarked for comparison?|||you are actually looking at two still distinct issues:

- (relative) performance of video cards

- visa compatibility

so far, only NVidia's 8800 and ATI R600 do later and fully support pixel shader 3.0

see http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?… for a peak @ R600 (& spotlight comparisons w/ NV's 8800 puppy)

also check out http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?… (!)

and, of course, ATI is still not available.

the other one is comparing video cards in general;

basically, a card that is twice as fast under XP will still be significantly faster under Visa; alas, the comparison is ludicrous if neither the faster nor the slower card support visa properly. see link for an independent benchmarking

http://freestone-group.com/video-card-st…

best advice is: wait for ATI's X2K serie (and a less unstable M$-Visa) ((and application that make use of the features...)

by then, chances are that IT sites will have ATI R600 cards to test and compare w/ NV 8800 cards.

Video card comparison/help?

My dad is building another pc and asked if I wanted to use his old video card. I am not sure if his or mine is a better card. I currently have a [SKU : 4670PE31GDT] DIAMOND ATI Radeon™ HD 4670 GDDR3 1GB 2 Dual Link DVI I S Video, HDTV Video Card and he wants to trade me a EVGA

e-GeForce 8800 GTS 640-P2-N821-AR. I am sure someone can give me a pretty hands down answer to this. Thanks in advance :)|||the 2 main differences in the 2 cards is chipset speed and memory size.

the ATI card has higher memory but a lower clock speed and size

below is a quick reference guide to the main differences

Memory Clock

ATI - 900mhz

Nvidia- 1600mhz

Memory size

ATI - 1024mb

Nvidia- 640mb

Memory Interface

ATI - 128-bit

Nvisia- 320-bit

Stream processes

ATI - 320

Nvidia- 96

Everything else is pretty much on par. To put it in laymans terms, If you think of the cards as runners with buckets of water the ATI card is slower but can carry more, whereas the Nvidia is faster and carries less. So it comes down to what you want to do with the card.

Gaming requires less memory and faster graphic processing whereas video processing and photo software/general application work requires more memory and less speed.|||Take a look here. Depends on which version of the 8800 GTS.
